- Water with concentrations of calcium and magnesium can cause cloudines to for with Nessler reagent—adding stabilizer solution (Rochelle salt) will prevent the cloudiness
- References recommend distilling samples prior to analysis
- Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) ammonia-nitrogen, NH3-N
