- Specially formulated to have expiration of 5 years from date of manufacture for an unopened bottle
- Prepared to fix ionic strength of sample and standards so both are constant
- Without addition of ISA, ion selective electrode would measure ion activity
- Addition of ISA stabilizes ionic strength and permits measurements as ion concentration
- With some ISEs, ISA solution is also used to adjust solution’s pH or to remove any potential interferences from competing ions that are present
