Parr Instruments® Shaker Hydrogenation Apparatus with Explosion Proof Motor and Switch, 115 V, 3926EGX
Features:
- Materials to be treated in Parr hydrogenator are sealed in reaction bottle with catalyst and connected to hydrogen reservoir
- Air is removed either by evacuating bottle or by flushing with hydrogen
- Pressure is then applied from reservoir and bottle is shaken vigorously to initiate reaction
- Bottle can be heated or cooled during this process, if necessary
- After reaction reaches desired point, shaker is stopped, bottle vented and product and catalyst are recovered
- Progress of reaction can be followed by observing pressure drop in system—for example, when using 250 mL charge in 500 mL bottle and drawing hydrogen from standard 4-liter tank, tank pressure will drop approximately 8 psi for each one-tenth mole of hydrogen consumed; exact relationship between pressure drop and amount of hydrogen consumed can be determined by making calibration run using weighed amount of compound whose hydrogen acceptance is known
- Each apparatus is equipped with all necessary valves and fittings for admitting hydrogen to bottle, for evacuating bottle and for filling hydrogen tank, all without disturbing bottle connection
- Separate gages show bottle pressure and tank pressure at all times
- Four-liter gas tank, bottle holder and sturdy shaker mechanism are arranged in compact assembly on steel base for convenient operation on laboratory bench or in hood
- Gas connection from hydrogen tank to reaction bottle is made with polypropylene tubing that extends directly into bottle so that no metal parts come in contact with charge
- Tank itself, its valves and pressure gages are made of stainless steel
- Parts are well suited for use with hydrogen
- Valves have stainless stems, PTFE packing and replaceable PCTFE seats to ensure positive, leak-proof control in quantitative procedures
- Smaller, one-liter stainless tank (A16CA2) is available for semimicro operations in which small amounts of gas must be measured—regular valves are easily transferred to smaller tank
- Six foot pressure hose is furnished with each apparatus for filling hydrogen tank from commercial gas cylinder and can be attached easily to any gas pressure regulator or tank valve system
- One 1000 mL and one 2000 mL glass bottles supplied
